Inclusion
Inclusion promotes equal opportunities for all pupils, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background. It pays particular attention to the provision made for, and the achievement of, different groups of pupils within a school and any pupils who are at risk of disaffection and exclusion. Ofsted defines an educationally inclusive school as one in which the teaching and learning; achievements, attitudes and well-being of every young person matter.
Bishopton is a truly inclusive school, committed to valuing the uniqueness of all pupils. We provide our whole school community every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards, and the mental and physical health and well-being of our pupils is our main priority. We are a rights respecting school and we recognise that all of our pupils have varied and diverse needs and life experiences. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations of success for all pupils.
Inclusion Quality Mark
‘The focus on achievement, expectations and aspirations has given rise to many success stories at Bishopton which are living proof of the positive impact of this inclusive ethos.’ IQM report 2020
The Inclusion Quality Mark provides schools with a nationally recognised framework to guide their inclusion journey and to give a nationally recognised validation of their inclusive practice and ongoing commitment to developing educational inclusion.
Bishopton started it’s Inclusion Quality Mark journey in 2018. The school had it’s first assessment day, and the assessor was so impressed she recommended that Bishopton became a Centre of Excellence.
Since then, Bishopton continued to work hard in this area and maintained the Centre of Excellence status in 2019 and 2020. Our ongoing efforts have now led to Bishopton achieving the IQM Flagship award.
As one of only 4 PRUs in the country to hold such a prestigious title, this demonstrates Bishopton’s aspirational view of inclusion and reflects the hard work of all our school community and stakeholders.
The IQM assessor reported:
“There is a clear, shared vision for each young person to leave Bishopton fully prepared to take on the future challenges either at college or in the workplace, and flourish.”
Bishopton will continue to strive for excellence in inclusion and maintain our Flagship status, with an annual review.
The IQM assessor reported:
“There is a clear, shared vision for each young person to leave Bishopton fully prepared to take on the future challenges either at college or in the workplace, and flourish.”
