Today, at Bishopton, we are celebrating and focusing on 2 of our core school values: Love and Enjoyment.
We are doing this with a focus on a local child and how we can help him during this time – to offer love and support.
Billy was diagnosed with a rare cancerous brain tumour in 2018 when he was just 13 months old. Billy underwent a 9 hour surgery and also endured months of chemotherapy. In March 2020 his treatment ended and during lockdown Billy officially rang the bell to signal the end of this. Billy went from strength to strength until September 23rd when he went for a check up and his MRI unfortunately revealed that his tumour had returned.
Billy now faces having to have another intensive brain surgery and will now need Proton therapy.
Throughout the day, pupil’s have took part in a range of lessons, looking at Billy and his family’s fight against cancer
– Maths: looking at the data of childhood cancers through graphs and charts
– English: writing letters and christmas cards for Billy and his family
– Science: exploring Proton therapy and advances in cancer treatments
– PSHE: creating group messages of support and encouragement for Billy and his family
– PE: games of “Blind football”, exploring how loss of vision can effect depth perception
We are also raising money for Billy’s Army through a non- school uniform day for students. Staff sponsored exercise challenges and homemade sweet treats, made by our extended school community, will also be on sale for staff.
We hope we can support Billy, and his family, and highlight their strength and resilience in his fight against cancer.
