‘The Co-Headteachers are a big presence in the school and though the vision emanates from them, the entire staff team should feel proud that their commitment and dedication is so evident and clearly impactful in a positive way on the Bishopton community.’ IQM Report 2020

A warm welcome to Bishopton PRU

We hope that this website provides you with the information you need about our school. Bishopton staff and governors are committed to making a difference to every young person that attends Bishopton. We firmly believe that every child we work with is able to achieve and succeed, and gain strong academic achievements. We transform lives and achieve success.

At Bishopton we provide specialist support for all of our students within a safe and secure environment. We are a caring and supportive school which has a clear sense of purpose to develop the students’ academic potential and increase respect, discipline and confidence so that all are able to be successful at their next stage. The PRU runs like a school, but with some differences. We place a high emphasis on pastoral support. We also run a wide range of creative activities, designed to promote to our students a greater understanding of the wider world and their place within it. Our aim is for all of our students to lead successful, independent lives, both in the workplace and in their relationships with others.

All students are assessed on entry so that they have access to a highly personalised education package that allows them to make accelerated progress; their progress is carefully monitored and underpinned by all staff who work hard to make sure that every student is successful.

Many of our students have missed key elements from their previous learning and once they have begun to re-engage with school structures we seek to narrow the gaps in their education specifically in English and numeracy. We offer a rigorous programme so that they have the opportunity to return to a mainstream school and/or gain qualifications and prepare for a place at college, access to work or an apprenticeship.

Our students are supported by a team of dedicated professionals’ that include expert practitioners from education as well as additional specialist staff who offer a range of services to enable students to engage with teaching and learning.

We are additionally assisted by the full range of other services available to support our students and their families with the continued support from Stockton Local Authority.

We are proud to lead a committed body of staff on the next part of the school’s development and have high expectations that we will work together in supporting the social and academic potential in all of our learners.
